Neurofeedback for ADHD

A medication-free and short-term program that offers long-term positive effects

We understand that if you’re caring for someone with ADHD – or are living with the condition yourself – finding a treatment that works is often a long, frustrating and emotional experience. At neuroCare, we’re here to give you both hope and long-term results using our safe, scientifically proven and medication-free treatment options.

How do we help ADHD?

To help children and adults with ADHD, neuroCare clinics use a type of neuromodulation therapy called neurofeedback. This is a sophisticated form of ‘brain training’ that involves non-invasive technology as well as talk therapy.

Studies show that 76%1 of people saw positive results from neurofeedback, and that results were sustained 6 months2 after treatment sessions ended.

How Neurofeedback works

What is Neurofeedback?

Because of the adaptable nature of our brains (also known as neuroplasticity), every day, we naturally go through the ongoing process of learning new information, creating new neural pathways. By retraining your brain through neurofeedback – where it is rewarded for changing its activity to more appropriate patterns – we can teach the brain to self-regulate and overcome behavioural conditions like ADHD.

Clients attend sessions at least 2 times per week for anywhere between 30 to 40 sessions. After the learned brain activity has been consolidated, no further sessions are needed.

Neurofeedback from the comfort of your own home

Tele-Neurofeedback is an option for clients who live far away from the clinic or who are in self-isolation. Our Neurofeedback experts can train a friend, family member or caregiver of the client to correctly set up the session with the loan of professional Neurofeedback equipment. Regular sessions (at least two sessions per week) are then scheduled while your trained therapist uses TeamViewer to conduct the Neurofeedback session in conjunction with a Teleconsultation.

Advantages of Neurofeedback for ADHD

We strictly administer Neurofeedback following a comprehensive assessment, so that the program is of optimal benefit to the patient.

Improves Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is important for people with mental health issues such as ADHD. By training the brain to less overactive states, Neurofeedback can make it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

No side effects

Neurofeedback is proven to be safe and other than feeling a little tired after a session, there are no side-effects to this brain training technique. Unlike certain ADHD medications, Neurofeedback therapy has the advantage that it does not cause sleep problems (actually it may improve sleep), stomach pains, nausea or agitation

An average of 30 – 40 sessions is typically needed, with sessions held at least twice per week. After completing their Neurofeedback Program, most patients enjoy long-lasting benefits.

The efficacy of Neurofeedback relies on a gradual and natural learning process in the brain, like learning a musical instrument or sport. Once the new brain activity has been learnt, the positive effects can be sustained. Think of it like a “gym for the brain“.

Scientifically Proven

We only apply protocols which have been rigorously tested in science and use technologies that are supported by these studies. By doing a comprehensive QEEG and sleep assessment, our Psychologists and Psychiatrists are equipped with a deeper insight into your sleep activity, ADHD or ADD symptoms and can tailor the program to your individual brain activity.
