Dr Lidbury completed his medical degree in 1995 at the University of Newcastle. After his initial hospital experience, he completed specialist training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and a Masters of Public Health (Honours) at Sydney University. For over a decade he worked in this field, in both the public and private sectors and undertook management roles.
It was during this time he observed an increasing amount of mental health issues in the workplace and decided to do further training and become a Psychiatrist, specialising in Addiction. Towards the end of his psychiatry training he was awarded a Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry by the NSW Institute of Psychiatry and the Addiction Medicine Fellowship from NSW Health.
