Alison is an experienced Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner. EMDR is a recommended treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by the World Health Organisation. Alison uses an integrative approach to enable her to tailor therapy to the individual client’s needs, integrating EMDR with Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Alison believes it is vital to help clients to achieve emotional stability using DBT, ACT, CBT or mindfulness-based therapies before addressing the underlying causes of emotional instability using EMDR. As a caring, supportive therapist, Alison understands that engaging in therapy can be confronting and challenging for the individual. As such, throughout the therapeutic process, in keeping with evidence-based research in trauma-informed practice, Alison uses a strengths-based approach to encourage and build her clients’ resilience and self-concept. Alison is committed to building a strong therapeutic rapport with her clients, she views therapy as a collaborative process.
